Orthophytum Gurkenii
Product Description
ORTHOPHYTUM GURKENII
Product Information
Orthophytum gurkenii is a rare, striking bromeliad species native to the state of Minas Gerais in eastern Brazil. It is highly valued as an ornamental houseplant due to its unique foliage.
Light: Orthophytum gurkenii requires ample bright, direct sunlight to develop its characteristic dark leaf color and striking pattern. In insufficient light, the leaves will revert to an olive green color. A south or west-facing window is ideal.
Watering: Unlike many other bromeliads, it does not store water in a central "cup". It prefers a rather dry location and is drought-tolerant. Water once or twice a week in the summer, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
Soil: Use a very well-draining soil mix, such as a purely mineral substrate or a mix suitable for cacti/succulents.
Temperature: It thrives in stable temperatures between (15-25°C) and should be protected from frost and cold drafts.
