HATIORA SALICORNIOIDES
Product Information
Hatiora salicornioides, commonly known as the Dancing Bones or Drunkard's Dream cactus, is an epiphytic plant native to the rainforests of Brazil. It is a popular ornamental houseplant known for its unique, jointed, bottle-shaped stems and small yellow to orange flowers.
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some morning sun but should be shielded from harsh afternoon sun, which can scorch its delicate stems.
Watering: Water moderately, allowing the topsoil or potting mix to dry out slightly between waterings. It requires more water than desert cacti but is still susceptible to root rot if left in standing water.
Soil: Use a well-draining, slightly acidic potting mix rich in organic matter, such as a mix tailored for cacti and succulents amended with perlite, sand, or an orchid mix.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in average indoor temperatures 18–24°C. It is not frost-tolerant and requires moderate to high humidity levels (around 40-50%), which can be maintained by misting or using a pebble tray.
Flowering: Produces small, yellow to orange, bell-shaped flowers at the tips of younger segments, typically in late winter through spring. To encourage blooming, some sources recommend providing cooler conditions around 10°C and a period of reduced watering in winter.
Propagation: Easily propagated by stem cuttings. Allow the cut end to callus for a day or two before planting it in well-draining soil.
