Product Description
ELAEAGNUS GILDED EDGE
Product Information
Elaeagnus × ebbingei 'Gilt Edge' (commonly known as Oleaster or Silverberry) is a tough, versatile, evergreen shrub known for its distinctive dark green leaves with bright golden-yellow margins. It is a popular, low-maintenance choice for hedges, screens, and coastal gardens due to its tolerance for a wide range of conditions.
Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade; it is one of the few variegated shrubs that can tolerate full shade, though growth may be slower.
Soil: Adaptable to a wide range of well- drained soils, including dry or poor soils (sandy, loamy, or chalky), but dislikes waterlogged conditions.
Watering: Once established, it is drought-tolerant. Young plants should be watered regularly during their first growing season to develop a strong root system.
Pruning: Generally low-maintenance. Prune annually to shape or maintain size, ideally after flowering in late autumn or winter.
Hardiness: It is a tough and hardy plant, tolerating frost, strong winds, salt spray, and urban pollution, making it an excellent choice for coastal areas.
Maintenance Tip: Remove any solid green shoots (reversed foliage) as soon as they appear to maintain the plant's variegation.
