- Mixing tetraploid perennial ryegrass with a diploid offers potential to produce more milk from fewer cows, with easier pasture management
- Viscount have higher palatability due to their sweeter stems but consequently they tend to get overgrazed
- Adding a diploid like Tyson changes this
- The resultant tetraploid/diploid mix is denser and more robust than a straight tetraploid, and much more palatable than a straight diploid
- Barenbrug recommends sowing half the normal sowing rate of each cultivar i.e. 15 kg/ha Viscount plus 10 kg Tyson
- Sown with clovers, chicory and plantain this mix gives a balance of palatability and persistence
- Viscount and Tyson have a more upright growth habit, lending themselves to a multi-species pasture
- This mix is also great as an oversow at 18-20 kg/ha
