Piperazine salts are utilized for treating ascarids in a variety of animals such as dogs, cats, horses, pigs, and poultry.
The white crystalline powder called Piperazine comprises of 100% piperazine adipate, which is equal to 37% piperazine base. This treatment paralyzes the susceptible nematodes by altering their muscular polarization, enabling their expulsion via feces. Its neuromuscular impact is thought to result from the obstruction of acetylcholine at the myoneural junction. In the case of ascarids, it also prevents the production of succinic acid. Piperazine adipate is absorbed easily from the proximal gastrointestinal tract, and the kidneys excrete and metabolize the drug. Piperazine compounds have a wide margin of safety in all animals.
